Before the Year Starts: Important Info

Welcome to Our Class!

As a valued member of Room 211, you are invited to regularly view our classroom blog! You can expect this site to keep you informed of all of the happenings in Mrs. Goff's 1st grade classroom. I update it as often as possible. Please direct any and all questions you may have to me, Mrs. Goff. I can be reached by phone at Craddock Elementary at (330) 954-2185 or by email at lgoff@aurora-schools.org.

Let's Eat!

First graders enjoy the later lunch seating here at Craddock! Your child will work up an appetite on the playground before heading to the cafeteria for lunch. A school menu will come home via email each month with the Craddock newsletter; make sure to keep it in a safe place. Your child has the option of packing their whole lunch, packing a lunch and buying milk, or buying their whole lunch. Please make sure your child knows which option they will be choosing each morning. They will need to let me know during our morning routine.

How Do I Pay for Lunch?

With our lunch system, you can prepay your child's lunches (this works as a debit system). When you send in lunch money, please put it in a sealed envelope marked with your child's name and teacher. Remember to go over the lunch menu with your child every day. This will help ensure that your child will be willing to eat what is being served!

Snack Time

Due to our later lunch period, we will be having a daily morning snack. Please send in a healthy, NUT FREE snack each day. Remember to keep it separate from his/her lunch if your child is packing. It makes it much less confusing for them! The children are allowed to have a water bottle with their snack. Juice boxes must be saved for the cafeteria. Please make sure that your child's water bottle has a sports cap to help prevent large spills.

Celebrating Birthdays

A Word about Birthday Treats:  We understand that the children get very excited about birthdays and really love to bring something in to share with their classmates to celebrate.  Our schools have seen a significant increase in food and food related allergies, as well as other reasons for dietary restrictions. Often, in the early grades, children may not even be aware of all of the things they might react to.  We hope to strike a balance between the sharing of treats and each family’s right to monitor what their children eat at school.  It is still our suggestion that you consider sending in a fancy pencil, eraser, or other school supply item. However, if you do choose to send in an edible treat, please package it in such a way that it may be sent home with each child.  This way, all parents can rest assured that their personal preferences are being respected.
PLEASE NOTE: Invitations to birthdays or other parties held outside of school are to be sent from the home. Classroom teachers are not responsible for passing out invitations to private parties, nor are students permitted to do so during school.  School personnel are not permitted to give out phone numbers or addresses.

Team Teaching
Mrs. Janko and I will be team teaching again this year. This means that we will be going to Mrs. Janko's room to learn Science, and her class will be coming to our room to learn Social Studies. How exciting!

Bus Tags

Your child will be coming home with a bus tag around his/her neck. These tags serve a dual purpose. They act as a name tag for the faculty and staff to get to know your child, and as a form of identification for the bus garage to make sure that your child makes it to their destination safely. Please be sure to put your child's bus tag back in their book bag every day when they come home from school (even if they do not ride the bus!). They will need them through the first full week of school.

Let's Keep in Touch
It is so important that we are on the same page about your child's education! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call or email. You can reach me by calling the direct phone line into the classroom (330) 954-2185. Please remember that the phone does not ring during class time, but goes directly into voicemail. If you leave a voice message I will get back to you as soon as possible. If it is an urgent matter, please call the school office at 330-562-3175. You can also reach me through email at lgoff@aurora-schools.org. Remember that we share a common goal: we both want your child to succeed. We have to work together to provide every opportunity for success!
